John-Drums and Mayhem

John started playing drums 24 years
ago. His first lesson was on April 3, 1980, a few weeks shy of his 12th
birthday. The drum bug bit him hard and drumming consumed his every thought.
What followed was years of private lessons and numerous hours of practice,
sometimes as many as 8 hours a day. Within a few years, John started
putting bands together with kids from around the neighborhood. With each garage
band, John was gaining the experience he needed to excel at his craft. His first
big break came when his band was chosen to be on a CD spotlighting the local up
and coming talent. That band eventually dispersed and John went on to be one of
the founding members of Bone China, a dominating force on the local scene in the
early 90's. The popularity of Bone China continued to grow,
attracting many record label interests, and John was now endorsed by many of the
major drum companies. While shopping some record labels, Bone China recorded a
self titled debut album (which was never released). Due to problems from within
the band and a tiring touring schedule, John was burnt out and the love of
playing his drums was gone. In November of 1992, John walked away from
Bone China and put his sticks down, vowing never to play again.
Fast forward now to the year 2002. Sam, another former member of
Bone China, was now guitarist for REWIND. Sam is also John's best friend of 20
years, or, as John considers him, his other brother. Sam asked John to
come back to drumming and sit in the driver's seat for REWIND. Sam swore it
would be like the old days, when they played for the enjoyment of playing and
the love of the instrument.
Finally, after a little bit more than a year of nagging, John agreed to
give it a shot. He told Sam that he wasn't making any promises but he
would see if the spark came back........ In November of 2003, John walked back
on stage after an 11 year hiatus. Guess what? The drum bug bit him again and now
he plays for the pure LOVE OF IT!
