Sam-Lead Guitar

Where it all started-circa 1972-73
Sam is the oldest of two boys and was blessed with the talent
of his father. Being of Middle-Eastern descent, Sam’s father brought many
different musical influences into his home, including Israeli, Greek, Arabic,
Italian, and especially Flamenco. Sam's father (and his hero) played flamenco
guitar so Sam followed in his footsteps and picked up the guitar. As he grew
up, Sam was introduced to a large number of musical styles and influences
which became a part of him as he learned them. In high school, Sam was already
studying college level music theory and this took his knowledge of music and
his desire to learn the guitar farther than he could have imagined..
Once out of high school, Sam played, recorded, taught, and
worked in music stores in Miami (where he met Mike), creating and satiating in
him a hunger for different styles of music. After several different original
projects (among them BONE CHINA which included future REWIND drummer John) and
a few recording sessions, Sam found himself four nights a week on Miami Beach
playing a gig which involved playing standards, pop, country, rock n’ roll,
reggae, calypso, soca, dance, and anything else the audience would request.
This experience left almost no musical stone unturned.
One day in 2002, Sam received a phone call from Mike telling
him of an opening in his band. Sam jumped on the opportunity and after one
audition was the new lead guitarist for LAWTON, playing his first gig with
them four weeks later.
LAWTON had become unstable at the position of drummer. Numerous
people and been brought in to fill the backbone of the band, but all lacked
the attitude, passion, or skill to fill LAWTON's needs. The inability to find
the right drummer led Sam to call John, his former bandmate and friend of 20
years. After some coaxing, John joined the band, reuniting their musical
kindred spirits and inspiring Sam and LAWTON to new levels. The only thing
left was to leave the past behind and forge ahead with a new vitality and a
new name...REWIND.
